Profile Enhancements for GED & Me Mobile App

Problem to be solved

GED & Me mobile users set a goal date that they want to earn their GED during onboarding/setup, but don’t know how to track their progress to that goal (e.g. test scores, appointments, etc.)

User Feedback

  • Users don't know how to find their goal ("when" they want to earn their GED) to adjust it once they've finished onboarding.

  • Users are not sure why they submit a goal (a graduation date) if they cannot revisit or see their progress toward it.

  • Users lose sight of their selected goal (a graduation date) and don't understand that studying may improve their test results and help them achieve their goal (earning their GED by a selected date).

Solution

Update GED & Me Profile so users can access their test scores and see/track their progress toward earning their GED.

Show Subject Tiles and Statuses

Add “subject tiles” to the Profile page, showing the required subjects the student has to test and pass in to earn their credential (e.g. most have just 4, but some states require a Civics test as well). Shown here is a user that has not signed up/logged in, so their copy shows that they should sign up to see their test history, but also let’s them know some optional next testing steps.

Feature Recent Test Activity

Each subject tile can show a short phrase to indicate the most recent, relevant testing activity. For example, if the student received “Green” score on the practice test (the “GED Ready”), they will see that, but if they have schedule a GED test, they’ll see a countdown to that information.

When the user selects any of the tiles, they’ll get different content based on their activity (e.g. a prompt to “Schedule GED”, or their test (and score) history for that subject, or an appointment detail card if they have a GED test scheduled.)

Celebrate User’s Achievements

Incorporate joyful elements, like celebratory illustrations when users meet important milestones, like passing a subject, or earning their GED and becoming a “graduate”.

Provide prompts for graduates that achieve “College Ready” or “College Ready + Credit” scores to take advantage of our post-graduate paths they may be interested in: job listings or college and university programs.

Create Component Sets

To help with implementation, I created a component set of each “state” of the subject tiles so that developers could build these elements in a design system, and to support documenting the design requirements for the stories needed to create this functionality.
